THE number of pupils at Shimoni Demonstration has dropped by more than half, after the school relocated to East Kololo, Chris Kiwawulo reports.

According to Kampala City education officer, Anne Galiwango, there were 853 pupils who were registered as of March 2007.

Although the number is greater than the 709 pupils the classrooms can accommodate, the school lost 1,366 pupils to other schools.

In a recent statement, the education ministry, said the pupils have been absorbed in eight other schools within Kampala.

These are: Kibuli Demonstration, Naguru Katale, Kiswa Primary, Police Children School, Nsambya, Bat Valley, Nakivubo Primary, St. Jude Primary and Kisugu Church of Uganda.

The headteacher of Shimoni, John Buyinza declined to comment, saying the city council was better placed to do so.
