LOCAL sports journalists’ umbrella USPA has voted the Bombers trio at the Africa Boxing championships in Madagascar utl-USPA’s sports personalities of May.

Lightweight Sharif Bogere, bantamweight Attanus Mugerwa and light welterweight Fred Muhumuza collected 495 votes to beat three other competitors to the scribes award.

Weightlifter Ismael Katamba (475) came second while basketballer Frances Nabulobi and rugby player Adrian Bukenya were third and fourth respectively in the tightly contested poll at Lugogo.

The Bombers made the list after Bogere and Mugerwa won bronze medals at the continental meet. The duo and Muhumuza who was ejected at the quarter-finals also qualified for the World Boxing championships in Chicago, September.

Katamba won a gold medal at the Africa Junior weightlifting championships in Libya before following it with another one at the national championships in Jinja.

Nabulobi (470 votes) and Bukenya (460) came third and fourth after they excelled at the Inter-Cities basketball in Nairobi, Kenya and rugby in Kampala respectively.
