THE internally displaced persons returning to their villages have been urged to report abandoned bombs and land mines to the army. The head of the 4th and 5th Division engineering department, Maj. Wilson Kabeera, said the UPDF suspects that the LRA buried many land mines in the north.

“The success of de-mining the un-exploded ordinances lies in the hands of the local population. They are in the areas infested with land mines and un-exploded ordinances. I, therefore, urge whoever comes across any unknown object to report to the army and local leaders for action,” Kabeera told journalists in Gulu district.

He noted that with the cooperation of the residents, the UPDF would de-mine northern Uganda in very short time.
