Dstv channels win awards

DStv channels featured prominently amongst the winners at the 2007 Broadcast Digital Channel awards held recently in London. National Geographic channel won the award for Best Factual Channel, with the judges praising the quality and diversity of the channel’s programming.

DStv channels featured prominently amongst the winners at the 2007 Broadcast Digital Channel awards held recently in London. National Geographic channel won the award for Best Factual Channel, with the judges praising the quality and diversity of the channel’s programming.

The Disney Channel won best children’s channel and Sky News won the award for best news channel. Al Jazeera English, which has recently been launched on the DStv bouquet, was highly commended at the awards. MultiChoice Africa Head of Content Aletta Alberts said as a pioneer in bringing digital satellite TV to Africa, DStv was proud to offer these award-winning channels and will continue to add new top-rated international channels to DStv’s existing quality bouquet.

“DStv will continue to provide subscribers with a world-class pay television service that gives consumers the flexibility to choose a bouquet of channels that suit their viewing needs and their budgetary requirements,” Charles Hamya, the general manager, MultiChoice Uganda said.

He went on to add that DStv will screen more than 800 live football matches in the 2007/08 season, with plans to secure the rights to even more games from the world’s most exciting tournaments and leagues including additional coverage of the English Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Coca Cola Cup, La Liga, the French Premier League and the UEFA Cup.
