MBALE Heroes FC has joined City Lads, Mukono United and Masindi in the drop from the Super Division football league after a Mbale High Court judge lifted the order which had stopped the local football federation from relegating them.

The eastern side, that has been in and out of the Super League, had on July acquired a court order to stay FUFA’s impending action of relegating them from the Super League, but Justice John bosco Katutsi reversed the order on August 2. This paved way for Heroes relegation after being locked in the bottom four of the league table.

“The order was reversed and the league is now running normally. We still have a case to defend but relegation and promotion will now take place,” said FUFA legal official Fred Muwema yesterday.

FUFA, who filed a defence on August 3, argued that FUFA was an incorporated association with no legal rights to sue or be sued and also has the mandate to organise the national football league, including the Super Division league. It also the powers to delegate those powers to bodies like the competitions’ committee.

The defence also states that the league had its own rules and regulations and Mbale Heroes has been a willing participant in the same until its relegation.

* In a bid to avoid such feuds between FUFA and Super Division Clubs Association in future, the federation wants to set an autonomous body to run the national league from next season.

The proposal to set the body that will run the league independently is part of the issues to be discussed at the federation’s extra-ordinary assembly in Masaka tomorrow.

FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa disclosed yesterday that they were lobbying SDCA members to back them in setting the body to be composed of Super Division clubs officials and independent prominent persons to form the body which will be appointed by FUFA.
