STELLA Atim scooped the woman-of-series award after an outstanding performance in the ICC East Africa tournament that ended in Nairobi on Sunday.

The Uganda women team lifted the trophy after thumping Kenya by 48 runs in the final match of the round robin event.

Atim beat Kenya’s Ema Wagui to the award.

“I was confident we (Uganda) were going to lift the trophy, I had a strong belief in my players. My task now is to ensure Uganda play at the World Cup qualifiers in South Africa in April,” said head coach Charles Lwanga.

Naome Kayondo lifted the best bat award while Uganda’s captain Barbara Mukankusi scooped the best fielder award.

The women victory was the third triumph for coach Lwanga after guiding the under-19 boys in 2002 and the U-17 side in 2003.

The boys had something to smile about despite losing to Kenya in their decisive match. John Tumusime was named best bowler and Ahmed Yakub the best bowler.
Meanwhile, the U-19 World Cup squad will have trial matches against the senior team this weekend.
