A new FUFA structure has been designed to offer checks and balances, and improve performance as a way forward for the development of football in the country.
FUFA legal officer Fred Muwema, while making a presentation at the inaugural FUFA breakfast at Sheraton Hotel on Thursday said that the structures, all based on accountability to the stakeholders, will have the general assembly, Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer, all with different roles to play in the association.
He equated the structure to the playing field with the general assembly being the goal area, the executive being what he called a ‘packed midfield’ and the CEO being their lethal striker.
“The general assembly’s role is to develop and defend football by discussing and ratifying the major decisions made by the executive.
The executive is the midfield which has to see that there is a free flow of information. It exercises and executes the function in liaison with the standing committees while the CEO ensures implementation of the different activities.
He said that in the past, the executive has been scoring own goals by bribing the assembly, which would do nothing else other than vote once a year. He said fans, were the foundation of this structure .
“Without the fans, there is little we can do. A fan is the main pillar and foundation in the game,†said Muwema.
FUFA sponsorship and marketing committee member Dennis Mbidde also unveiled the committee’s strategic plan, which has a vision of improving the games’ image, with the aim of bringing back all stakeholders in the game and seeing Uganda in the 2008 Africa Nations Cup and 2010 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the process forrestructuring the grassroots continues today, with the elections for executives for the 13 FUFA zones. Patrick Okanya is the returning officer.
