WBS Television has agreed to join hands with FUFA to promote local football starting with the 2006 Super League season. The station will be running adverts promoting the league matches and a weekly Super League round-up. Also, on Monday nights, it will feature a recorded game.
Arrangements will also be made to provide live telecast of league matches played in Namboole. The same support will be given to Cranes and national junior teams matches.
The arrangement was reached during a meeting between WBS TV general manager Kenneth Kazooba and FUFA PRO Aldrine Nsubuga at at Spear House yesterday.
Kazooba said that WBS had always sought for such a partnership as part of their social responsibility. He thanked the new FUFA for their efforts to rebuild local football.
Meanwhile, SC Villa deem themselves favourites to reclaim any silverware the 2006 domestic season stands to offer.
Andy Mwesigwa, who steered the 16-time league winners to two draws in friendlies against Tanzanian giants Yanga and Simba recently, yesterday said: “In Tony Ojara and Esborn Mundia, we have two potent strikers that will lift a very young and talented team to glory.â€
Despite losing key figures Morley Byekwaso, Godfrey Kateregga, Denis Onyango and Emmanuel Balyejusa, the Jogoos are determined to make a more concerted title bid with the arrival of John Kalangwa, Michael Azira, Geoffrey Lutu, Sam Senoga and Wesborn Mundia.
“We brought in the kind of players we felt will do the job. Of course it will not be easy as last season showed, but we hope they were good recruitments,†Mwesigwa added.
