A MILITARY truck yesterday morning collided with a semi-trailer, killing one soldier and injuring several others on the Kampala-Jinja highway.

Six seriously injured were rushed to Mbuya Military Hospital in an army ambulance.

The truck was part of the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) advance team that was heading to Mbale where President Yoweri Museveni was expected yesterday.

The accident that occurred at Kigunga village after Seeta trading centre in Mukono district interrupted the traffic on the usually busy highway.

PGB spokesman Edison Kwesiga said the truck was carrying logistics for the PGB.

The 6:00am accident involved a Rwanda registered trailer number RAA 123U/UAB 185C and a Kenya registered semi-trailer number KAL 674/ZB 8594.

Motorists heading towards Jinja and those heading towards Kampala were told by the traffic Police to use alternative routes.

For almost four hours, the PGB cordoned off the scene, which bustled with activity, as the soldiers moved some of the items onto other trucks parked nearby.

Mukono traffic Police chief James Wakooli, who was at the scene, said the semi-trailer was overtaking a stationary trailer when it collided with the army truck.
