POLICE FC head coach Asuman Lubowa hailed Mike Sserumaga’s second-half strike and fine league debut performance following the 2-1 victory over KCC.

“It took a fantastic performance from him to change the pattern of the game. It was phenomenal considering he was making his first appearance in league football with us,” said Lubowa.

The Cops lost Geoffrey Massa to Egyptian outfit El Masry, but managed to secure the services of Sserumaga from KB Lions after inspiring their promotion to the Super League. “I might have replaced Massa,” Lubowa said.

Dan Walusimbi helped the league defending champions to a first half lead with a fine header from Sula Lwanga’s in swinging cross. Yet the greatest debt was owed to Sserumaga, whose combative performance had not only reduced KCC FC to 10 men earlier but struck with astonishing confidence later in the second half. Sserumaga was brought down as he charged at goal in the second minute by Henry Kalungi, who was sent off.

“We only hope he gets better and for sure he can,” said Lubowa.

Lubowa was however concerned that after playing the game almost exclusively in the KCC half, they could afford just two goals.

“I was not happy because we had the chances to secure an emphatic win.”
After a game in which the once, almost invincible former champions of the 1980’s, started badly and got progressively worse with ten men after Kalungi’s red card

KCC FC coach Jackson Mayanja remained optimistic: “I don’t think we should be ashamed. We had a young side that gave its all and that will improve with time.”
