RIYAZ Kurji clinched his second title in succession on Kenyan soil when he won the Kenya Commercial Bank Simba rally in Naivasha yesterday.
The event was the first round of the 2006 KCB Kenya National rally championship. Kurji won the Guru Nanak rally last November which closed the KNRC series.
The Ugandan powered his Subaru Impreza N-8 to the finish with one hour 06.48 minutes lost. He was followed in second position by veteran ace Ian Duncan with Baldev Chager in third place.
Kurji was happy with his second straight victory saying he was now coping with Kenya’s terrain, which he described as ‘most difficult in my career owing to rough and dusty conditions’.
“I am using this terrain, however rough it is, to launch my campaign to win the Africa Rally Championships (ARC) that eluded me by a whisker last year,” Kurji said.
The battle for supremacy changed hands between Kurji and Duncan before the Ugandan took command midway through.
