MOBILE telecommunications company (MTN) Uganda has denied receiving a call from State House instructing it to block the radio Katwe website, radiokatwe.com.

The allegation was made by radio presenter Andrew Mwenda on KFM’s ‘Tonight Live’ talkshow on Wednesday.

MTN said in a statement yesterday that the directive came from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

In a February 13 letter to MTN, UCC executive director Patrick masambu instructed to block access to the website.

“Serious concerns have been raised in respect of the operations of the website identified by IP address 65.182.101.205. Due to the gravity of the concerns, this is to request you that, with immediate effect, you temporarily prohibit access to this address until further notice.”

The letter was copied to works, housing and communications minister John Nasasira and UCC chairman A.S. Katahoire.

Last week, the NRM complained to UCC that the controversial website was publishing malicious and false information against the party and its presidential candidate.
