AS many of the teams struggle to find their form, Mango Kobs had plenty to celebrate after crushing national champions MTN Heathens 19-0 in a Bell Lager Rugby League game at Kampala grounds on Saturday. It was the worst defeat the champions had ever had.

“We are quite happy with the results of this game,” Kobs captain Victor Wadia said after the game.

“I sincerely believe we were the better team and it is quite disappointing that we did not get a fourth try and thus the bonus point. But it was still a good win and hope we can retain the momentum, although we will take one game at a time.”

Heathens were in shock after the game, and none of them were available for comment. Seven-time champions Kobs had tries through Stephen Ogwete, who had two, and Ibra Nyango. Andrew Ikopit had two conversions for Kobs.

Meanwhile scrappy rugby ruled as Pirates hosted last year’s runners-up Rhino in a later game played at the same venue. Charles Chandia had an early penalty for Pirates, and they held on to that till Rhino’s Silas Mubanda broke through for a try. That is the way it stayed till Dennis Ekumet capitalised on Rhino’s poor defending to score a try.
