Besigye’s agenda is suspect

SIR – It seems Col Kizza Besigye is pursuing something beyond the presidential seat. He just returned from self-exile, did nothing to organise the party which was formed in his absence and yet has performed so well, but does not want to accept the results of a fair election.

SIR – It seems Col Kizza Besigye is pursuing something beyond the presidential seat. He just returned from self-exile, did nothing to organise the party which was formed in his absence and yet has performed so well, but does not want to accept the results of a fair election.

Two sets of election results (from the Electoral Commission and DEMGROUP) indicate that he was defeated, but, according to his alleged results tally, none of the candidates got more than 50% of the votes.

All the observers have attested that these were the most free and fair elections not only in the country but in Africa and the Americas. These are, by all means, credible judges! If Besigye disputes the process of arriving at the electoral results, he is the first culprit.

On February 23, he was shown on WBS TV holding a ballot box lid. I understand this constitutes a serious electoral crime. I also hear that a fan of his was arrested with 109 illegal ballot papers, 50 of which were ticked in his (Besigye’s) favour. As far as the presidential seat is concerned, I think Besigye needs more patience – even 2011 is too near for him.
