FORMER national champion Emma Katto is the latest entrant in this weekend’s KCB Safari rally after his co-driver Busingye Rwabwogo secured a new Subaru Impreza N-10 at the weekend.
The opportunity for Katto to return to the cockpit after two years struck when a European driver Rwabwogo was supposed to navigate in the Safari rally opted out of the event due to domestic commitments.
The event is the second round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).
“In the true sportsman spirit Rwabwogo was offered a special deal so that he can find another driver and go ahead with the rally. Rwabwogo immediately contacted me and I was more than ready to make my small contribution towards this deal,” a jovial Katto said.
The deal will see Katto and Rwabwogo drive the same car in Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda rally next month and the Mountain Gorilla Rwanda rally in September.
The Ugandans depart for Nairobi tomorrow in time for a practice session ahead of route reccing on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We will take it easy in the Kenya event because we have taken long without competitive driving. Riyaz Kurji and the Kenyan drivers will not be easy to beat but Charles Muhangi is the least of our problems,” said Katto, who was flanked by Rwabwogo.
