THE Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) comprising national radio and television stations was launched last Wednesday at their home in Nakasero under the slogan Bigger, Better.

Born in 1963 as UTV and Radio Uganda served the nation diligently amid struggles and weathering political storm after storm.

After restructuring, UBC is now poised for the sky, having recruited a bevy of presenters from other reputable rival stations. Information state minister James Nsaba Buturo unveiled the logo and cut the cake but had no kind words for scribes, saying they address the President by name and forget his titles.

He said the Government would support UBC and see it transform into a vibrant sector. Trade and industry state minister Nathan Nabeta launched the website.

Aggrey Awori, who was the first UTV director, was present and a host of UBC staff. Either it was a gesture of goodwill or pure business matters, WBS TVs’ general manager Kenneth Kazooba attended, with Phillip Besimiire, Rita Okuthe, and Halima Namakula and many others from the business communities.

Archaic equipment like cameras, tapes, recorders, microphones and amplifiers were on display to remind guests of a long enduring trek to the digital world.

Some items were older than some guests like the OB van purchased in 1975.
