THE Government is to undertake a speedy and adequate revenue compensation for local governments following the abolition of graduated tax and residential property tax.
Local government state minister Richard nduhuura said the government was also having talks with the donor community to revise the conditions governing the Local Government development programme (LGDP) money.
He was meeting officials of the newly-created Kaliro district on Thursday at the district headquarters.
“LGDP funds have certain conditions that are likely to affect local governments following the scrapping of graduated tax revenue.
“Instead of raising local funds, donors should understand the government’s new system of compensating the lost revenue such that local governments don’t suffer,” Nduhuura said.
