Livingstone ssewannyana was motionless when court announced that it had upheld a 19-year jail term against him.

A prison warder had to guide him from the dock after the verdict.

The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence agai-nst the 70-year-old incestuous father, who defiled his daughter and helped her to abort each time he made her pregnant.

Justices Laetitia Mukasa Kikonyogo, the Deputy Chief Justice and Galdino Magellan Okello upheld the conviction and the sentence, while Justice Constance Kategaya Byamugisha dissented, but reserved her reasons.

“We are unable to fault the trial judge on his findings although the appellant denies committing the offences. The appeal is dismissed and we uphold the conviction and the sentence,” the court ruled.

Ssewannyana was convicted of defilement and incest, contrary to the Penal Code Act (PCA). He committed both offences on his biological daughter after he had separated from his wife.
