uganda telecom limited (utl) has donated four IBM compatible computers worth sh2m to Miranda Memorial Academy, a primary school in Rukungiri district.

Ruth Kirinda, utl’s public relations manager, handed over the computers to the school director, Tessi Rwamunahe, on Tuesday at Rwenzori Courts in Kampala.
Kirinda said the donation is a foundation as the school is trying to set up a computer training facility.

“utl is privileged to make a difference to the future of Uganda through the corporate social responsibility programme, which includes initiatives for orphans, education and youth in sports,” she said.

She said utl recognises the importance of enabling and empowering rural institutions, in order to further support the development of communities.

Kirinda said the computers had been upgraded in terms of capacity and outlook, word and database applications.

Rwamunahe said the donation would enable them realise their dream of setting up a computer training centre.

“We requested for assistance from utl to establish a computer training facility that will serve the entire community. Now that we have got it, the school will be at a better standard in the whole district,” she said.
