The kitchen is the heart of every home, often being for preparing meals and as a pre-living room. However, for all it is worth, many homes relegate the barest essentials to it.

That is, a few saucepans, an ordinary knife, some cutlery, china cups and of course a fireplace. But how about improving your family’s well-being by shopping for exotic new ware from Game Lugogo or Uchumi Garden City?

You no longer need to use the same knife for peeling matooke and scaling fish as well as slicing bread. Buy a new stainless steel bread knife from Game for sh13,000. Better still, you can buy the whole exquisite set of six knives. You can use these for anything - be it even breaking the backbone of chicken.

Invest sh88,700 in a machine that makes you a cup of coffee the instant you need it. Just turn on the power switch and you will be serving out two or three cups in minutes. At least this is more convenient than bustling around for sugar and coffee and waiting on the electric kettle whenever a guest shows up abruptly.

Alternatively, you can buy a blender/fruit processor for just about half of the price of a coffee-maker.

Game Lugogo offers the widest selection of imported saucepans that have heavy chunks of plastic for handles. So, you no longer have to run around for strips of paper or a towel when you urgently need to remove a saucepan from the fire.

You also need a dustbin where you can dispose of peels and leftover food. Wait a moment; any common trash bucket will draw hordes of flies to your kitchen. Besides, a garbage can for the kitchen must never betray anything about its contents until it is opened. Why not buy a stainless steel metal dustbin that only lifts its lid when you push down its plastic pedal. It costs sh19,600.

But besides all this, you should have bought glass canisters that are labelled ‘tea’, ‘sugar’ and ‘coffee’. You do not need to keep such kitchen essentials in empty tins of NIDO or biscuits. Glass canisters give a touch of class to your kitchen, for only sh6,850 a piece. Also get a microwave where you can warm food.
