THE Government is to recruit 2,000 teachers in preparation for Universal Post Primary Education and Training slated to start next year.

This was revealed by the assistant commissioner for education, John Agaba at a science fair at Kololo High School in Kampala, recently.

He said the ministry of education has set aside sh2.5b to procure teaching materials for science subjects in the 350 schools in the rural areas.

He said an additional sh1.2b has already been spent on purchasing the science teaching materials for schools in the north and eastern part of Uganda.
“We have already provided science books and laboratory equipment to 123 government- aided schools in areas of insurgency,” Agaba said.

There are 847 public schools in the country.
