THE uganda telecom managing director, Aimable Mpore,
has resigned. He could not be reached for comment.

Sources in the six-year-old telecommunication company
yesterday said, “He has tendered in his resignation but the
reasons are unclear. He will issue a statement tomorrow
(Thursday) on the reasons why,” the source said guardedly.

Other sources said, “He ran into trouble with the board of
directors and he was advised to resign. But the company is
also undergoing total restructuring.
uganda telecom came into existence after the break-up of
Uganda Post and Telecommunications Corporation in 2000 as the national operator.

Mpore has been the managing director since 2000. Other
senior officials who have left the company this year include
Faisal Khan, who was the chief commercial officer and
Donald Nyakairu, who was corporation secretary.

In a message posted on the uganda telecom website,
Mpore said, “Since 2000, we have grown to the point where
we can now claim with pride that uganda telecom is the
biggest communications company in Uganda.”
