Lands, water and urban development minister Daniel Omara Atubo has said all Ugandans, including the opposition, should work with President Yoweri Museveni as the elected leader.

A former UPC stalwart who stood as an independent, Atubo said the military government ended when Uganda moved from the Movement to multiparty democracy.

He said, “Ugandans should join hands to work with Museveni regardless of parties because he was their choice even though not all the people voted for him.”

Atubo, who is also Otuke MP, was on Saturday celebrating the the election of Oyam South MP Dr. Okullo Epak at Loro P.7 School in Apac district.

The function was attended by Lango MPs including Charles Angiro Gutomoi (Erute North), Ben Wacha (Oyam North), Hamson Obua (Northern Youth) and district chairpersons of Lira, Apac and Amolatar.

Epak commended president Museveni for appoint ing Atubo instead of NRM members, saying they would work together with Atubo to unite the people of Lango.

“I am happy Ugandans are learning how democratic governments operate. Kizza Besigye is a good example because he is not thinking of waging war against the government although he lost the presidential elections,” Atubo said.

He said Ugandans should commend the NRM for allowing for the transition to multiparty democracy but said there were still some weaknesses.
