Rosebud, Uganda’s sole exporter of rose flower stems to the US has increased its exports to 150,000 stems from 100,000 a week.

Rosebud, Uganda’s sole exporter of rose flower stems to the US has increased its exports to 150,000 stems from 100,000 a week.

Peter Mwangi, the general manager, said on Thursday that the jump in exports was due to the rising demand from the US.

He said four other buyers and distributors had expressed interest in their flowers.

Mwangi said this would push exports even further.

“The US demand for Ugandan roses is growing. We now export 150,000 stems per week and the prices offered are better than those of the Dutch Auction.

“The US florists are interested in our roses because of their unique size, colour and a long vase life,” Mwangi said in a phone interview.
