Dear Doctor,
Please help. I have sores on my privates and find difficulty in walking.
Jj

Dear Jj,
Any sores or wounds on your private parts are sensitive because it may be a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It needs to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. See a doctor immediately.
They may or may not be related to your difficulty in walking. A doctor can quickly find out and give you treatment.
Remember that such wounds make the transmission of HIV easier from one person to another, so do not have unprotected sex before these wounds are healed.

Dear Doctor,
Sometimes the lips of my privates get swollen and itch. What is the problem? I also always go into my periods after three weeks, is it normal? We have always had ‘live’ sex, but I don’t get pregnant.
NM

Dear NM,
Itching around the woman’s privates is commonly due to ‘candida’. This is a fungus that lives on our skins and sometimes overgrows. It may be related to the periods cycle. Candida is easily treated with a tablet or drugs inserted in the vagina. In cases with only itch, an anti-fungal cream applied directly on the lips is a quick solution. The length of a woman’s ‘month’ varies from person to person. Some have long cycles, and others shorter. Therefore your period cycles are not abnormal.
Doctors investigate infertility after a couple having regular unprotected sex for over a year fail to conceive. The investigation is of both partners, because the man may also be infertile. Consult a gynaecologist about it.
