POSNET Omwony will not be considered for this weekend’s Nations Cup qualifier against Lesotho. Coach Laszlo Csaba ruled yesterday that the goalkeeper who features for Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa was surplus to requirements for this weekend and will be reserved for future engagements.

Police FC’s Hannington Kalyesubula and on-form keeper Denis Onyango of South African side Super Sport FC will battle for the number one jersey.

“I do not have a problem in that department because the other options are good,” Csaba said when asked about the decision.

Omwony was between the posts when Libya beat Uganda 3-2 away in Tripoli. Omwony, who looked unfit, was blamed for two goals. Nearly half a dozen Ugandan professionals are set to feature in Saturday’s game.

Lawrence Segawa (Super Sport) and Iceland’s IBV FC defender Andrew Mwesigwa joined the team on Saturday.
Acting Cranes captain Timothy Batabaire, also of Bloemfontein Celtic, stepped into the country yesterday.

Onyango arrives today, while Egypt-based forward Geoffrey Massa and Serbia-based defender Nestroy Kizito were expected last night. Ibrahim Sekagya of Arsenal in Argentina and Denis Obua, who played for Chiefs against Supersport (2-2) are expected before Thursday.

Csaba revealed he intends to field two teams in tomorrow’s friendly against Burkina Faso. “The idea is having a look at the fitness of each of the players before deciding on my starting team against Lesotho,” Csaba stated.

Csaba gave the players three hours off yesterday evening to meet their families before regrouping.
