THE Ugandan embassy in America lacks staff, the ambassador has said.

Perezi K. Kamunanwire, meeting seven northern Uganda delegates headed by Acholi Paramount Chief David Onen-Acana II, said the embassy in Washington DC needs an officer to specifically handle the matters relating to the war-ravaged northern Uganda.

The delegation is in the US to lobby for support for the ongoing peace process in Juba and a comprehensive development of the north from the US government.

Kamunanwire met the delegation on Wednesday in his office on 5911 16th Street, Washington. The delegation later travelled to Boston.

Kamunanwire said, “I have only two officers here who should run all the affairs of Uganda. This is inadequate. There is urgent need to recruit more staff. I need to have an officer who will handle the affairs of the north with the US government. Northern Uganda has suffered for too long and the security situation has to be restored.”

His remarks were in response to a briefing by Onen-Acana II about the various consultative meetings held with US officials during a four-day programme that started on Monday.
