STANDARD Chartered Bank (StanChart) has teamed up with the Church of Uganda (COU) to fight and prevent the spread of malaria in a campaign worth $1m.
Launching the campaign dubbed “Nets for Life,” in Kampala, David Cutting, the bank’s managing director, said the initiative will involve giving treated mosquito nets and educating the public about prevention of Malaria.
“Malaria is one of the biggest killers in Africa. We thought it wise to partner with COU to distribute mosquito nets across Uganda. We will distribute 33,000 nets this year aimed at saving lives of pregnant women, children under five years and people living with HIV,” Cutting said.
He said, “The funding will be for three years. The project will be supported by a comprehensive awareness programme.”
