AN FDC candidate in Kasese district, Yokasi Bwambale Bihande, has won the Bukonzo East MP seat.
Bihande (right) beat his closest rival Fred Businge (NRM) with a margin of 4,258 votes in a by-election on Monday.
The incumbent, Appolinaris Kithende, trailed with 2,394 votes.
Kithende, who had represented the constituency for 10 years, contested as an independent candidate.
“This is one of the successful elections. They have been peaceful, free and fair. No complaint has been filed,” the Electoral Commission chairman, Dr. Badru Kiggundu, said after voting was closed.
The Bukonzo East seat fell vacant after the High Court in Fort Portal nullified Kithende’s election on the grounds that the polls were marred by malpractices.
Bihande’s wife, Winfred Kiiza, is the Kasese district Woman MP.
She is also an FDC supporter.
