NOMINATIONS for contestants eyeing the UABF presidency will be done at the federation’s general assembly on Saturday.

The exercise will follow promulgation of a new UABF constitution by bonafide boxing clubs at Lugogo.

Businessman Rogers Ddungu, retired boxer Justin Juuko and Masaka politician Luke Ssekamwa have shown interest in the top amateur boxing job.

Each of the candidates has to be nominated by one club and seconded by two clubs.

This will be followed by a vetting process of the candidates by the UABF normalisation committee.

Presidential candidates are also required to deposit a non-refundable $600 (sh1.1m) nomination fee.

The assembly which opens with registration at 8am is expected to approve the amendments in the constitution drawn by the normalisation committee.

National Council of Sports (NCS) disbanded Sakka Kamoga’s UABF executive in June.

In an effort to streamline the federation, the Dr. Ntege Ssengendo led interim committee has proposed that only active clubs should constitute the assembly. This locks out dormant districts that were holding the sway in the elections.

Elections have tentatively been set for December 9 at Lugogo.

The list of clubs with voting rights has: Kampala Boxing Club, Nakivubo, COBAP , Kololo High School, UPDF, Scorpion, Lukanga, Mengo Social Centre, Kiggwe, Nakulabye, Sakku, East Coast, Naguru, Kakira, Rise and Shine, Africa Sport, Zana , Kilembe, Jack Biz, Entebbe.

Changes in UABF’s constitution include representation to the general assembly being shifted from districts to clubs. This was a popular idea stemming from the fact that clubs are a more realistic constituency.

There is also the proposal for the president to appoint his executive in a bid to boost teamwork.

New posts like an extra vice president(technical), organising secretary have also been added.
