Ian Clarke gets ISO certification

INTERNATIONAL Hospital of Kampala (IHK) has obtained ISO 9001 certification, becoming the first hospital in Uganda to be recognised for harnessing international medical standards.

INTERNATIONAL Hospital of Kampala (IHK) has obtained ISO 9001 certification, becoming the first hospital in Uganda to be recognised for harnessing international medical standards.
The prime minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, presented the certificate to IHK chief Dr. Ian Clarke during a ceremony at the hospital’s new premises in Namuwongo.
Nsibambi, accompanied by state ministers Dr. Alex Kamugisha and Tim Lwanga, also toured the 200-bed facility which is due to open.
Nsibambi praised Clarke for contributing to the development of medical services in Uganda. He said the new hospital was evidence that Clarke and his wife had faith in Uganda by investing here.
“The Government encourages people such as Dr. Ian Clarke, who invest innovatively. This will greatly add to the limited medical facilities that Uganda has to offer and will encourage further investment in the country,†said Nsibambi.
Nsibambi said the ISO 9001 certification is recognition that IHK has systems of quality management and controls in place accepted as international standards.
He noted that IHK was the first private hospital of its kind in Uganda and would lead the way in private medicine.
Clarke said patients would be moved into the hospital on Wednesday.
He said the facility had a good ambience, modern equipment and expertise and would lead the way for other health service providers in Uganda.
