I did not say Sudanese refugees would be deported

Sir— In The New Vision of February 3, your reporters, Patrick Jaramogi and Samuel Okiror, misquoted me as having said, “Uganda is to deport about 65,000 Sudanese refugees.”

The correct statement was that the formal repatriation of the Sudanese refugees in Uganda to Sudan was to be arranged between the two governments and the UNHCR. No where did I mention “deport” at all.

Deportation is a matter of retribution, uncalled for and unwarranted in the circumstances.
