KAJARA MP Herbert Nuwagaba Muntuyera, the younger brother of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) chief mobiliser, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has said he is still a supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

This was during a fundraising for the construction of a science laboratory at Rukoni Secondary School in Ruhama county, Ntungamo district on Sunday.

Ntungamo district Woman MP Beatrice Rwakimari introduced Nuwagaba and other MPs to President Yoweri Museveni. “Movement Oyee,” while displaying the thumbs-up symbol, as Museveni smiled.

A day earlier, while addressing a youth conference at Rwashameire sub-county headquarters, Nuwagaba declared that he was a member of NRM.

Museveni said the MP had seen light and cautioned the politicians against using threatening language because power belonged to people who have the vote.

“Those using threatening language should watch out. A man is never threatened. You threaten me, I slap you,” Museveni said in Kinyankole
FDC officials Muntu, Capt. Guma Gumisiriza, Jack Sabiiti, Dr. Sulaiman Kiggundu, Asanasio Rutaro, James Musinguzi Garuga and Wagonda Muguli left the function shortly before President Museveni arrived.

Only the area MP, Augustine Ruzindana, stayed.

Before they left, Muntu bought a cow while the other five jointly bought a bull at sh1m. Muguli donated sh100,000 and said he “carried greetings from Uganda House, to the people of Ruhama.”

Ruzindana told Museveni, “We differ on the future but not the present. I thank you for what you have done. Let us work together on what has not been worked on.”

Ruzindana said Museveni had overwhelming support in his constituency and asked for the tarmacking of the Ntungamo-Mirama Hill road and for the extension of the telephone network to Ruhama. A smiling Museveni and Ruzindana later shook hands.

Earlier, Museveni commissioned a piped water project at Nyakika. He said plans were underway to extend power to Kikagati, Kitwe, Kahunga and Kiyoora in Ntungamo.

He also said the road would be tarmacked. Museveni said the only problem was that Ruzindana was not reminding him because he joined a side “where we do not hear each other properly.”

Museveni said the Movement ended the killings by previous governments, which did not have people’s support.

“Before we came in 1986, Uganda had fainted and we have revived it. We are now embarking on building the economy. No one can threaten us. We have big guns now. No one can bring guns and he succeeds.
“The only way is through votes to consolidate the peace we ushered in,” he said.
