The family of former Uganda Army commander Brig. Shaban Opolot has appealed to the leader of the Iteso Cultural Union, Emorimor Augustine Osuban, to help them claim his gratuity.
The widows and orphans on Saturday told the Emorimor that Opolot died while following up the claim.
“We need the money so that we can construct a home where we can look after his children and grandchildren,†said Rose Mutesi Opolot.
Mutesi, who spoke on behalf of the widows and orphans, said her husband had hoped to use the money to put up a house in Teso. She was speaking during the last funeral rites and installation of the heir. The ceremony took place at Kireka, Nakaloke sub-county in Mbale district.
Opolot died on March 4 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He was one of the advisers to the Iteso cultural union.
