THE Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Major General (rtd) Mugisha Muntu has said he turned down a ministerial job offer from President Yoweri Museveni.
Addressing a public rally at Independence Park in Mbarara town during the launch of the party in the district on Friday, Muntu said, “After I retired as army commander in 1998, they wrote to me giving me a ministerial post. But as soon as I got the letter, I immediately wrote back refusing the job offer.
“If I wanted, I would have remained with NRM like some of my friends. I would have stolen and gone untouched, but you people matter to me,†Muntu said.
He said he had decided to leave the benefits of a rich party like NRM and begin afresh with FDC. The rally was preceded by a march through the streets under the scorching sun and the watchful eye of armed UPDF soldiers and anti-riot police.
Police guided the procession led by MP Major John Kazoora and Chapaa Karuhanga. The procession was made up of mainly young men in white party T-shirts and carrying presidential campaign posters of Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye.
The party’s district chairperson, Mary Frances Kabateraine, said they had hired a band from Uganda Martyrs Primary School to play during the procession, but the school authorities withdrew at the last minute and returned the money they had been paid.
