The 15-year-old Nakiganda , who was lifting in the 48kg category snatched 30kg and clean and jerked 40kg to make a total of 70kg in the category, whose only other competitor was Julia Matatiken who lifted a total of 120kg.

She won three silver medals in the Africa seniors after finishing second in the snatch, clean and jerk and overall.

But Uganda’s Milly Kaitesi failed to stand against the north Africans in the 53kg category, which was won by Fantanasi Soumaya from Tunisia. Soumaya is also the Mediterranean champion.

Kaitesi, settling for the three East African gold medals finished fourth in the five-woman competition. Other Ugandans were due to lift in the evening session.
