LEADERS in the new Koboko district have dismissed reports that a new rebel force is being recruited in the area.
The chairman of the West Nile Bank Front former combatants, Maj. Gen. Taban Amin, said his fighters had denounced guerrilla warfare and were now working with the government to create peace and development.
“We want to tell the President that there is no more cause for us to fight. Nobody should deceive people that we are recruiting rebels. Let’s develop our new district,” Amin said.
He was speaking at the launch of the West Nile Disadvantaged Widows and Orphans association in Koboko town on Monday.
The NGO was formed by the former combatants, thousands of whom withstood the scorching sun to attend the function.
The chairman of the interim district council, George Ambe, assured the government of support to promote peace.
