Inzzi, Kiprop win more dollars in IAAF final

BONIFACE Kiprop capped a great year when he finished second in the World Athletics Final 5000m race in Monaco on Saturday. He earned himself $20,000 (sh36m).

BONIFACE Kiprop capped a great year when he finished second in the World Athletics Final 5000m race in Monaco on Saturday. He earned himself $20,000 (sh36m).

The 21-year-old, who has twice been denied a medal in both the Athens Olympics and Helsinki World Championships—by finishing fourth at both events—was on form on Saturday.

This time, Kiprop had his final kick in order, clocking 13:40.03.
The Monaco event brings together the cream of world athletics for the final race of the season.

Dorcus Inzikuru had earlier won her 3000m steeplechase after she clocked 9 minutes 21.80 seconds. She won $15,000 (sh27m).

Meanwhile, world champions and record holders Kenenisa Bekele (10000m) and Yelena Isibayeva (pole vault) won the men and women athlete of the year award. They were crowned on Saturday.

Dorcus Inzikuru lost out to Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba—who won a double at the World championship—for the best year’s women performance. Justin Gatlin took the men’s award.
