The Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC) has asked Parliament to expedite the passing of the International Criminal Court Bill (2004),
The Bill seeks to implement the provisions of the Rome Statute, which created the ICC. Uganda is one of about 100 countries that ratified the Rome Statute.
The International Criminal Court Bill is currently before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee, whose chairman, Jacob Oulanyah, said they had scrutinised the Bill and their report was ready for tabling before the House.
Oulanyah said tabling the report was delayed because Parliament had to handle the Amnesty Amendment Bill and other Bills relating to the transition.
A group of 2,000 non-governmental organisations globally have created a coalition to promote the ICC through sensitisation of the would-be beneficiaries of its services.
