RESIDENTS of the Rwenzori region have been advised to be on a security alert, following reports that some Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels had crossed to the DR Congo.

John Thawite reports that a group of about 40 rebels led by LRA second-in-command Vincent Otti, were reported to have fled to the DRC recently.

The former commander of the Rwenzori Alpine Brigade, Lt. Col. Duwa Mawa Muhindo, said the area was strategic for rebel elements because it is mountainous.

He was addressing over 400 Movement cadres at their recently-concluded three-day retreat the Youth Institute in maliba sub-county.

National leadership Institute chief Capt. Henry Matsiko urged them to report suspicious people.
