LEFT-footed attacking defender Abubaker Tabula yesterday assumed Uganda Cranes captaincy for the forthcoming CECAFA senior Challenge Cup in Rwanda.
Egyptian-born coach Mohammad Abbas opted for the controversial APR player, who had still failed to regroup with the rest of the squad but promised to appear at Namboole today.
“I prefer defensive players. When I look at the rest in terms of experience and determination, Tabula makes the grade. Besides I think he will feel comfortable leading the rest in the country where he plays,†said Abbas.
“I will make it today. I had a few domestic problems,†Tabula said.
Hassan Mubiru finally reported for training with the 23-man squad Monday and was at ease playing alongside Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Geoffrey Massa in a three-man attack yesterday.
Abbas and assistant coach Sam Simbwa are striving to summon Super Mini-League revelation Mike Sserumaga for the wanting midfield.
