A FUEL shortage may hit the country following the increase in the consumption in the region, Shell boss Ivan Kyayonka has warned.

He told a press conference yesterday, “The insufficient capacity due to the increased demand from Tanzania, Uganda and DR Congo was likely to bring a shortage of fuel in the near future.”

He said they have had problems with supply for the last three months and it was becoming more serious. Kyayonka said they met the energy ministry officials to resolve the problem with the Kenyan customs officials.

“We want to get fuel from Nairobi by road. But Kenyan authorities do not want us to transport fuel beyond the pipeline,” he added. He said prices could be affected.
