FINANCIAL constraints have forced Uganda Weightlifting Federation (UWF) to reduce the number of lifters in camp at Lugogo from ten to six.

The six lifters entered the Lugogo camp on Monday to prepare for the Africa Junior and Senior Championships in Tunisia. UWF president, Rogers Ddungu has pledged sh1m for the team.

The championship slated for early May is the only 2004 Athens Olympic qualifier for the weightlifters.

“Algeria had promised to offer training for the Ugandan team at no cost prior to the Africa Championships but then changed their mind,’’ Ddungu said.

The camp has Moses Kimbowa as captain, Ismail Katamba, Nuwa Sowobi, and women Irene Ajambo and Mariam Nalubanga.

Players discharged from the camp are Mubaraka Kivumbi, Nasser Lutaya, Badru Namujje and Fauza Namubiru.
