UGANDA emerged second in the inaugural Africa Women cricket tournament after falling to hosts Tanzania by eight wickets in the final on Monday.

Winning the toss, the visitors opted to bat first but regretted the decision when they lost four of their upper order batters for low scores after failing the pace attack of Fatuma Omary (3-9) and Aneth Banali (2-9).

Uganda, that had lost to Tanzania in the group matches, had little to offer in the final and greatly benefited from the opponents’ 29 extras to reach 50 all out in 24.1 overs.

A match-winning 21 from Anjelina Mwabalulu put the hosts in control to cheaply overhaul the set score with 30 overs to spare and consequently lift the inaugural trophy in Dar es Salaam.

The Ugandans however return home proud after two big victories against giants Namibia and Kenya in the group matches.

Meanwhile, Castle Lager boosted the national cricket team with a kit worth sh3.2m yesterday.

Nile Breweries marketing director Mike Olsen handed high quality tracksuits, caps and polo T-shirts to the team manager Robert Kisubi.
The Ugandans leave today to South Africa ahead of their three-day inaugural Inter-continental meet against Namibia next week.
