UGANDA weightlifting Federation (UWF) has named a team of seven lifters for the Africa Weightlifting Championships. The games are due in Tunis later this month.

National coach Ali Kavuma said that the team, which was named after the final trials at Buziga country resort over the weekend, is expected to fly out to Tunisia on April 28th for the championship. This event will also act as the last Olympic qualifier for the African region.

“They (weightlifters) have improved a lot. Most of them have lifted weights above their personal best. I am sure with more training, they will be able to break the barrier and qualify for the Olympics,” said Kavuma.

Moses Kimbowa, Nuwa Ssubi and Godfrey Baligeya lifted 10kg above their personal best.

The team, which has been in residential camp courtesy of facilitation from Scandinavian Express Service, Property Masters and Samona products, has had there trip boosted by two tickets from government and four from Rio Insurance.
