THE Minister of Education in charge of Sports, Henry Okello Oryem, has said the future of the north will lie in education and skills when peace comes to the region, reports Mariam Nalunkuuma. “We shall have problems restructuring and rehabilitating the north if our people are not educated. We are now focusing on education.†he said. “The northern insurgency has been destructive to education in the region,†he added. Oryem (above) was recently receiving a donation of scholastic materials and uniforms worth sh10m from Southern Range Nyanza to internally displaced children in war-ravaged northern uganda. The managing director of Southern Range Nyanza, Misra Ramnath, said the corporate donation was in appreciation of the community’s contribution to the Nytil textile industry. “We at Southern Range feel quite aggrieved at the miseries, agony and hardship that citizens in the north are facing to the extent of not providing basic necessities of life,†Misra said.
