A south African national, Andrew Cavell, and prominent Ugandan businessman Amos Nzeyi have bought off the prestigious White Horse Regency Hotel in Kabale.
Sources said Kampala-based business tycoon Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba sold off the hotel at sh1.6b.
The new owners have appointed John Kamuhanda as the hotel’s overall supervisor.
Kamuhanda was former financial director of finance at Kampala Hot Loaf bakery.
Kamuhanda on Saturday confirmed the sale of the hotel and his new appointment.
“Cavell and Nzeyi recently bought off White Horse Regency Hotel and I have been appointed its new supervisor,” he said.
Sources said Basajjabalaba handed over the hotel to its new owners on May 15 and that he had retained its management including the hotels general manager Sam Munialo.
“I can’t tell you anything because I don’t know,” Munialo said.
Basajjabalaba bought the hotel in May 2002 from Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr Ezra Suruma, Christopher Mulenga, Ezekiel Balaba, John Twinobisigye and Eng. Steven Bamwanga, the MP for Ndorwa West.
Sources said the old hotel needs urgent repairs and renovations.
