MARY Kisekka, the widow of former vice-president, Dr Samson Kisekka, is holding talks with the Government to avert an imminent auction of the family’s sh335m worth land.
Through her lawyer, Kisekka told Commercial Court Judge James Ogoola on Monday that she was negotiating with the Government liquidator, Stephen Bemanya, over the matter.
Dr Kisekka’s land is up for sale to recover money owed to the defunct Hope Insurance Company. Court wound up the firm in March, after it failed to raise the requisite sh200m working capital.
The Uganda Insurance Commission had applied for the winding up of company.
The late Kisekka held majority shares in the firm and had reportedly pledged his two pieces of land at Kasubi and Gayaza to the company to raise its working capital.
The firm’s creditors include pensioners of Nkumba and Makerere universities, local and outside insurance companies. Kisekka petitioned court after the land was up for public auction after the firm’s creditors agreed to sell off its assets.
