Heavily armed anti-riot Police was on Saturday deployed in Hoima town to prevent possible violence during a demonstration calling for the sacking of four top Bunyoro Kingdom officials over David Pulkol’s attendance of the recent coronation ceremony, writes Amlan Tumusiime and Fred Kayizzi.
The demonstrators demanded the sacking of Katikiro Erisa Kagoro Byenkya, speaker Ernest Kiiza, his deputy Musoke and clerk to the Orukurato (parliament) Yovani Bigirwa “for using our institution to meet their political interests”.
Led by the Abarusura (royal guards) head, Moses Kasangaki, the protesters marched from the Boma Grounds through the town to deliver their memorandum to the Okwiri (head of Babito clan), John Olimi.
The demonstrators accused the four officials of having invited Pulkol to the event, which they said was a manipulation to extend the anti-third term struggle to the kingdom.
Hoima Police chief Samson Emukoka said the protesters had sought Police permission.
