RELIGIOUS leaders should continue participating in politics and other national issues, Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito has said.

He recently said, “Religious leaders help us tell people what should be done. They should talk about anything that concerns the people, including politics.

We want people who are educated in various fields. Religious leaders are free to express their political views because they have a flock to lead.”

Ssebaana was addressing about 100 delegates at the first Muslim women regional conference on HIV/AIDS at City Hall in Kampala.

They are from Rwanda, DRC, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

Various government officials condemned religious leaders for their stand against a third term for a president.

Ssebaana hailed Muslims for forging unity among themselves, saying it would lead to development.
